Quidnunc had hoped to print a photo of the winners of the Oireachtas golf championship which was held in Bundoran last month but none can be acquired. It appears members are now so shy about what they do in their leisure time that they won't even pose with golf sticks and trophies. Anyway, the annual Joe Brennan Memorial Cup, named after the former minister, was won this year by FG's Phil Hogan who got 42 points, current captain FF Senator Willie Farrell, came second with 39 points and third place went to Minister of State Hugh Byrne. The singles event at Rosses Point was won by Jackie Fahey, the former FF minister from Waterford. His opponents claim he is used to the rough. Players included Noel Dempsey, Bobby Molloy and Beverley Cooper Flynn. Deputy Hogan was presented with a Waterford brandy decanter and glasses.
The captain's prize at the June meeting at Hollystown Club in west Co Dublin was won by Senator Paddy Burke of Castlebar. He was presented with the Cooper Cup named after Major Bryan Cooper who was first elected to the Dail for Co Dublin in 1923 and at subsequent elections when he represented Clann na Gael.
