The worst roads for motorists in counties Louth and Meath were side roads. The national primary, secondary and regional roads were gritted at first light yesterday.
Less than an inch of snow was reported on lower lying grounds, while the Cooley mountains were heavily capped. An accident between Gormanstown and Balbriggan, where a lorry apparently skidded on black ice and jack-knifed, was the only serious incident reported in the area.
