Siege Of Ennis to skip the Curragh

Racing: Siege Of Ennis is set to appear at Aintree next week rather than lining up in the Ladbrokes.com Irish Lincolnshire at the Curragh on Sunday.

Trained by Edward Harty, the four-year-old won over timber at Leopardstown in January and ran well for a long way at the Cheltenham Festival before fading into sixth behind Crack Away Jack.

Regarding the Irish Lincolnshire, Harty said: "I think the top-weight (Hard Rock City) is going to stay in and that will leave him too far out of the weights. He'll probably go for a two-and-a-half-mile hurdle at Aintree next week instead.

"The plan was to go to the Irish Lincoln but there was always the worry there would be one rated too high in it. It's a bit of a long gap for us to wait until Punchestown and he's very well so we'll let him take his chance at Aintree."

Harty has yet to decide which race to target at Aintree and also anticipates running Siege Of Ennis on the level at some point in the not too distant future.

"He ran well at Cheltenham and he learned a lot there. There's a Grade Two novice hurdle and a handicap hurdle at Aintree, so we'll see which looks the better option nearer the day," Harty continued.

"He likes the cut in the ground on the Flat so we'll probably mix it up with him and see how he progresses."
