The collaboration between writer Maeve Ingoldsby and Kilkenny-based Barnstorm Theatre company in the production of children's theatre has been a fertile one. Silly Bits Of Sky is their fifth work and is as good as their best.

Five children go through an assimilable gamut of growing pains. Deggsie has to chaperon his young brother Petey, who is thick and given to fecking things. Their pal Spider, whose folks have a few bob, is not averse to rubbing in the lads' relative poverty. Of the two girls, one is tall and called Lanky, the other short and fat and labelled Pineapple.

Lanky's father is bossy and cranky, but her Granny is simpatico; Deggsie finds himself on the receiving end of both, while his widowed mother tries to keep her penurious show on the road. The children slag each other mercilessly and combine a ready friendship with an immature turning of knives in sensitivities.

Philip Hardy directs his talented cast - Helen Walsh, Mark O'Brien, Helen Roche, Gene Rooney, Mike Carberry and William O'Connell - in effervescent vein.
