Pitfall 3D: Beyond The Jungle

Pitfall 3D: Beyond The Jungle

Sony PlayStation £34.99

It's hard to keep a good man down and Pitfall Harry, being no different, makes a welcome return to the game-playing world thanks to Activision. His first appearance was on the Atari 2600 but now he is firmly in the third dimension.

In the original Pitfall who will forget the swinging vines, scorpions and those three crocs in the lake. However, times have changed and our hero now has a lot more to contend with. Pitfall Harry now resembles a real person and such modern gameplaying things as orbs are also included. In the original the vines moved independently of Harry, in this one he has some control of their direction. While the classic Pitfall formula has been adhered to Harry has a whole host of new enemies to fend off. As one would expect of a current-day platformer there is also an abundance of imaginative power-ups. Pitfall 3D should not be compared to Tomb Raider or Resident Evil it's far more light-hearted and fancy free. However, it updates Harry and is one for the younger gamplayer to watch out for.
