A simulated road crash involving a passenger bus and a number of other vehicles has been cancelled in the wake of yesterday's crash near Navan, Co Meath.
The operation was to have been carried out tomorrow on the N17 Galway-to-Sligo road. It would have been the third in a series of such events carried out by the Government Task Force on Emergency Planning.
The exercise was to involve the emergency services of counties Mayo and Sligo responding to the scene of the simulated collision where there would have been a large number of "casualties".
But a Garda statement said last night: "As a result of today's fatal road collision in Navan, gardaí have cancelled the emergency planning exercise which was due to be held on Wednesday."
A simulated train derailment in Maynooth, scheduled for today, was also cancelled.
