THE Cranberries lead singer, Dolores O Riordan (above) yesterday accepted an undisclosed sum over a newspaper allegation saying she went on stage without her knickers.

Her solicitor, Mr John Kely, told Mr Justice May at the High Court in London the item in the Daily Star last July was entirely without foundation.

Headed "Dolores drawers a crowd", it falsely reported that a sudden gust of wind had blown up her dress to reveal she wore no knickers while on stage during a concert in Hamburg.

Express Newspapers had already published a correction and apology, and had agreed to pay a lump sum, which would be used to give a donation to the charity, Warchild, and to pay the singer's legal costs.

In April, Ms O'Riordan accepted a £5,000 donation to the same charity from Sport Newspapers Ltd over a similar allegation in the Daily Sport.
