A SHOWBAND star has won the first round of a Pounds 30,000 court battle to decide who is "queen of the angels".

Suzanne Brennan (27) told the Circuit Civil Court she changed her name to "Angel" to promote her stage career.

In the Circuit Court yesterday the President, Mr Justice Frank Spain, granted her a permanent restraint against a showband promoter, Mr Padraic O'Rourke, barring him from using the name Angel to promote rival singers.

Mr Mark de Blacam, counsel for Ms Brennan, said his client claimed exclusive title to the name Angel, a partnership ink the band and a split of profits.
