Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams has undergone eye surgery at the Royal Hospital in Belfast, according to a party spokeswoman.
The Louth TD was treated for entropion, a condition that causes the eyelids to turn inward resulting in discomfort when eyelashes and skin rub against the eye surface.
"Gerry Adams is currently recuperating after undergoing eye surgery at the Royal Hospital in Belfast for entropion, a very uncomfortable medical condition affecting both his eyelids," the spokeswoman said.
Mr Adams is expected back in the Dáil tomorrow. He was referred to the Royal Hospital by his GP, based in Belfast.
