SIPTU taxi drivers protested in Dublin today against what they see as the deterioration of the industry since deregulation.

The drivers staged the protest from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Merrion Square and then went to the RTÉ Television studios where they continued their protest.

A spokesman for the drivers said they went to the studios because they felt media outlets were not giving enough coverage to their protests.

SIPTU is complaining against the lack of taxi ranks in the city centre and the lack of powers given to the new taxi regulator, Mr Jim Farrelly.
