Members of SIPTU have voted to strike at Bewleys cafe's in Westmoreland Street and Mary Street, Dublin, and the Omni Park, Finglas, from next Saturday. The threatened strike is over a 3 per cent productivity increase under the local-bargaining clause of the PESP.

Bewley's managing director, Mr Bobby Kerr, said a package had been recommended to SIPTU members and he was surprised it had been turned down. He would be happy to talk to the union.

If a strike took place, the company might not go ahead with new cafes at Blanchardstown and Jervis Street, he said.
