A sit-in at a Wicklow bookbinding company will continue over the bank holiday weekend as employees await the outcome of a report on the com-pany's viability.
An assessor appointed by the Labour Relations Commission, Brian Alyward, is expected to publish his final report on the future of O'Reilly's Bookbinders in Wicklow town on Tuesday.
The company's 14 employees, who are members of the union Siptu, have been staging a sit-in at the Murrough Industrial Estate premises in the town since July 18th following the announcement of plans to relocate the business to the Czech Republic.
A union spokesman said the workers now hope that their jobs can still be saved if the business is sold as a going concern. But at the very least, he said, they are confident that they will receive their statutory entitlements if the company is put into liquidation.
Under the Redundancy Payments Acts employees are entitled to at least two weeks' pay per year of service.
Most of the employees have worked for O'Reilly's Bookbinders for between 15 and 20 years, while some staff have accumulated between 25 and 28 years.
O'Reilly's Bookbinders carries out binding of journals, documents and reports. The company also carries out some work on archival documents. It is believed to be one of three or four binding companies in operation in Ireland
Customers of the company include the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Agriculture, the Courts Service and Trinity College Dublin.
