Edinburgh - Scotland's first parliament in nearly 300 years will hold its early meetings in a debating hall last thrust into the political spotlight by Baroness Thatcher. Her statement of personal moral belief before the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1992 prompted widespread debate and controversy.
The Scottish Secretary, Mr Donald Dewar, yesterday announced that the Church of Scotland's General Assembly Hall, built in 1859, will be the temporary home of the Scottish parliament until its permanent home is completed at the other end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. But the decision brought complaints from Glasgow.
