Six people were killed in traffic accidents over the weekend.
A man in his 50s was killed after he lay down under an ambulance in the grounds of St James' Hospital, Dublin, on Friday night. He died when the ambulance was driven off. The man's name has not been released.
Other fatal accidents on Friday evening included a Donegal boy, John Edward McLaughlin(14), from Glentogher, Carndonagh, who was hit by a car after getting off a bus, and Mr Sean Reilly, a retired Garda in his 60s, of Lowpark, Swinford, Co Mayo, who died when his car collided with a lorry at Kilbride, Swinford.
On Friday morning, Ms Ann Carbery, of Barrack Street, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, was killed on the Ballinasloe to Athlone road when the car she was driving collided with a school bus.
On Saturday there were two road fatalities. The first occurred at 7.30 p.m. on Ballybane Road, Galway, when a woman in her 60s was struck by a car. She has not been named. At 9 p.m., Mr John Dardis, of Cushentown, Garristown, Co Meath, a man in his 20s, was killed when a truck and car collided at Ballintra in Co Donegal.
At 2.46 a.m. yesterday, Mrs June Atkins, a mother of three from Lower Poulladuff Road, Ballyphehane, Co Cork, was killed when she was struck by a stolen car on Pearse Road in Ballyphehane.
