Six people were arrested by police in Northern Ireland today during a planned anti-drug operation in the north of the province.

The arrests were made in the Coleraine, Co Derry and Bushmills, Co Antrim areas when a number of searches were carried out last night and in the early hours of the morning.

A quantity of suspected cannabis, a number of cannabis plants, drugs paraphernalia and a sum of cash were seized, said a police spokeswoman.

Two women aged 23 and 46 were arrested as were two men aged 24 and two more aged 26, and 27.

The 46-year-old woman and 26-year-old man remain in custody. A 24-year-old man was released pending a report to the Public Prosecution Service and the other three released on police bail pending further enquiries.
