Six people have been killed in four separate crashes across Ireland

Six people have been killed in four separate crashes across Ireland. A man and a woman died in a two-vehicle collision in Derry this morning.

A third person was taken to hospital suffering from shock following the crash on the Culmore Road at 9.20am. The PSNI has asked motorists are asked to avoid the area.

A woman (21) was also killed in a single vehicle crash in Co Limerick. The incident occurred on the Newcastlewest to Dromcoliher Road just after 1pm. The woman was a passenger in the car.

A man and a woman also died when two cars collided head-on outside Ballymena, Co Antrim in the early hours of this morning.

Another man was serious injured in the collision which occurred on the Frosses Road near Glarryford at around 2am.

The crash involved a silver Citroen and green Mazda and the PSNI have appealed for any witnesses to the incident to contact them.

In a separate collision, a 19-year-old man died when the car he was travelling in collided with another vehicle near Newcastle, Co Down.

It is understood the victim was a passenger in the car when it crashed on the Castlewellan Road at around 10.20pm last night. Several other people were injured in the crash.

The latest deaths bring to 96 the number of people killed on Northern Ireland's roads already this year. Police said 113 had died in road crashes up to the same date last year.

Meanwhile gardai have named the man who died in the fatal road collision in Castleshane, Monaghan yesterday evening as Seamus Kerr (59) of Carrickanure, Annyalla, Monaghan.
