Six men arrested over fatal Clonmel stabbing

Gardaí have arrested six men in connection with the death of a 21-year-old man in Clonmel on Hallo'ween night this year.

Gardaí have arrested six men in connection with the death of a 21-year-old man in Clonmel on Hallo'ween night this year.

The body of Mr Jamie Lonergan was found on the morning of November 1st by people taking a short cut through Kelly's Field at the back of St Luke's psychiatric hospital, on the outskirts of the town.

He died of multiple stab wounds to the body and face.

The six men, aged between 18 and 26, were arrested this morning when gardaí raided homes around Co Tipperary.

All six are from the Clonmel area, but only two were held at Clonmel Garda Station. Two others were brought to Cahir, while the remaining two were questioned in Tipperary town.

They are being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to twelve hours before being released or charged.
