A BURGLAR with 137 previous convictions has been given a six-month prison sentence for smashing in the front door of a creche and stealing €100.
Father of two, John Paul Barrett (25), from 143 Ballinfoyle Park, Headford Road, Galway, pleaded guilty at Galway District Court to burglary at the unoccupied creche at Tirellan Heights, across the road from his home, in the early hours of July 10th last year.
He also pleaded guilty to burglaries at three other business premises in the city last year.
Insp Michael Coppinger said Barrett forced open the front door of the creche and stole €100 cash.
Judge Mary Fahy sentenced Barrett to six months in prison for breaking into the creche and imposed a consecutive two-month sentence for one of the other burglaries.
