At least six people have been killed in a pile-up on the main road from London to Brighton.

Police said the multiple collision took place at about 4.30 p.m. yesterday near Pyecombe, Sussex, on the A23 road north of Brighton.

Three men and three women were killed in the accident, and possibly another seven were injured, police said.

One possibility was that a vehicle crossed the reservation and collided with an oncoming vehicle, police said.

The road was closed in both directions overnight. Many motorists were returning to the capital after heading to the coast to enjoy the warm weather over the weekend.
