Six people – four men, a woman and a teenager – have been remanded in custody charged in connection with the seizure of an estimated €264,000 worth of cannabis plants during Garda raids on three houses in Co Galway over the weekend.
Garda Noel McNulty gave evidence at Galway District Court yesterday morning of arresting and charging three of the men at Galway Garda station on Sunday.
Before the court in custody were Son Thianh Trinh (60), Tuan Tran (37) and Lee Van Dung (48), all of no fixed above.
All three are charged with the cultivation of cannabis plants at Ballygally, Gleann Road, Oughterard, last Saturday, September 15th.
They are further charged with having the drugs in their possession and having them for sale or supply to another on the same date.
The men made no reply when the charges were put to them.
Garda Barry Nugent gave evidence also of arresting Nguyen Van Nam (29), at a house at Addergoole Beg, Garrafauns, Dunmore, last Saturday. He too made no reply when the same three charges were put to him.
In the afternoon, a 36-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy where brought before the court in custody on similar charges.
Garda Barry Nugent again gave evidence of arresting the woman, Thuy Thi Nguyen, of no fixed abode, and the juvenile, who cannot be named for legal reasons at a house at Bullaun, Cummer, Tuam, last Saturday.
The boy was sent to a juvenile detention centre.
