Simi Valley - Six people, at least two of them teenagers, were shot last night at a home in this Los Angeles suburb and local TV stations reported that two of the victims had died.
A police spokesman said officers responded to a shooting at a house in a wealthy neighbourhood and found "multiple victims," but said he had no information on their condition.
Two of the victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-old-old girl, were taken to Simi Valley Hospital, where they were being treated for gunshot wounds, hospital spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the boy was listed in stable condition and the girl in critical condition. Two Los Angeles TV stations reported that two other victims were fatally injured.
Local KABC-TV said officers were combing the neighbourhood for a gunman reportedly seen fleeing the area in a dark green sports utility vehicle.
