Nabatiyeh, Lebanon - Israeli helicopters raided two Lebanese army positions in south Lebanon yesterday, killing six soldiers and wounding five others and a civilian woman who later died, a Lebanese army spokesman said.

"Two Israeli helicopters fired a total of three rockets at a Lebanese army position near the village of Arabsalim, north of Nabatiyeh, killing six troops, wounding five others and a civilian woman and destroying an armoured vehicle," the spokesman said. The army later said the woman had died.

A few minutes after the first raid, the helicopters fired two rockets at another Lebanese army position where another armoured vehicle was destroyed, the sources said. The Israeli air attack was the 61st raid on Lebanon since the beginning of 1997.

A few hours earlier, fierce fighting took place in the Jabal alRafei area on the edge of Israel's south Lebanon occupation zone between pro-Iranian Hizbullah guerrillas and Israeli troops.
