Six TDs and a senator have begun a three-day official visit to the Lithuanian parliament.

Six TDs and a senator have begun a three-day official visit to the Lithuanian parliament.

Ceann Comhairle Dr Rory O'Hanlon is leading the delegation after an official invitation. In 1998 a delegation from the Lithuanian parliament, the Seimas, visited the Dail.

Dr O'Hanlon is leading the delegation on the visit which lasts until Friday. He is being accompanied by Fianna Fáil TDs Jimmy Devins and John Carty, Fine Gael's Dan Neville, Labour's Joe Costello, Ciarán Cuff of the Green Party, and Senator Camillus Glynn, also of Fianna Fáil.

The schedule includes meetings with Lithuania president Valdas Admakus, Artaras Paulauskas, Chairman of the Seimas, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Antanas Valionis.

According to an Oireachtas press office statement the trip will provide "an opportunity for Irish members of parliament to have useful discussions on many issues of interest and share experiences with their Lithuanian counterparts."
