Sixteen people were rescued from a fire in an apartment building in Cork city centre this morning.
Two people were removed by ladder from a flat roof outside their window on Dominick Street. They were reported to have had a child with them.
Three fire engines and one control unit arrived on the scene at 4.00am, some seven minutes after the alarm was raised. The fire, which broke out in the lobby, was extinguished within six minutes.
Three teams wearing breathing apparatus searched the building for trapped residents, but most were able to escape unassisted. No injuries were reported and material damage was minimal.
