The Spanish skipper of the vessel which was involved in a fatal collision with an Irish trawler off Co Cork on Sunday was fined for a log book offence yesterday. The owner of the Irish trawler, Mr Danny O'Driscoll, drowned following the collision.

Francisco Cruces Iglesias (40), from Carballo, La Coruila in northern Spain, pleaded guilty at Dunmanway District Court to making an in correct entry in the log book off his vessel, the Sea Horse, on January 27th.

The state solicitor for west Cork, Mr Malachy Boohig, said the offence was a technical one. Mr Rory Conway, solicitor for Iglesias, said the problem had been caused by a clerical error. Judge Brendan Wallace imposed a fine of £200 and £500 in costs and ordered the vessel to be detained until the money was paid.
