Thomas "Slab" Murphy has been further remanded on bail to appear again before Dundalk District Court next month.
Mr Murphy (58), a farmer with an address at Ballybinaby, Hackballscross, Co Louth, has been staying with a brother-in-law at a farm in Innishkeen, Co Monaghan, since he first appeared before the District Court on a series of charges relating to his tax affairs last week.
He was arrested at Castletown Road in Dundalk on November 7th under Section 16 of the Criminal Assets Bureau Act and the Tax and Consolidation Act and was subsequently charged with nine offences relating to his tax affairs.
State solicitor Michael O'Donovan told Judge Flann Brennan they were seeking a further remand until next month to facilitate more preparation of the book of evidence.
Mr Murphy, who did not speak during the brief proceedings, was smartly dressed and attended court without the significant Garda presence that accompanied his first appearance before the judge in Ardee, Co Louth, last week.
His solicitor, Paul Tiernan, did not oppose the request by the State solicitor.
However, he did ask that the evidence be prepared in time for the next court appearance on December 12th.
Mr Murphy has lodged €20,000 with the court and was to have surrendered his passport while relatives lodged property deeds.
The conditions of bail remain unchanged and Mr Murphy is to continue to sign on daily at a Garda station pending his next court appearance.
