A case against a 41-year-old man charged with assaulting another man was adjourned at Navan District Court in Co Meath yesterday morning.

Judge John Brophy warned the media to report only on the matter before the court.

Vincent McKenna, Crann Dairebrae, Slane, is charged with assaulting Thomas McManus causing him harm.

The offence is alleged to have taken place at Crann Dairebrae, Slane, Co Meath, last Saturday.

When the case was called yesterday morning, Insp Pat Gannon asked for it to be adjourned and Mr McKenna's solicitor, Patrick O'Reilly, said he was consenting to the application.

Judge Brophy told the court he had received a fax informing him that Mr McKenna had sworn an affidavit seeking a judicial review of the proceedings and is also seeking an order of prohibition.

Judge Brophy said that he had not read any newspaper containing an article on the defendant, and after being asked by Mr O'Reilly to caution the reporters in court, the judge said reports must be based only on the charge before him and no other comment must be made regarding Mr McKenna.

The only matter as far as the court was concerned was the matter it must deal with and the application for prohibition related to publicity.

"I personally have not read any of the newspapers or media reports," the judge said. "I am not prejudiced by anything printed or said in the media."

Judge Brophy adjourned the case to October 5th.
