A group of residents in Co Meath are reportedly seeking a High Court injunction to prevent a concert by Madonna going ahead at Slane Castle at the end of August.

The residents are concerned at the potential for public disorder ahead of a Sunday concert. Lord Henry Mount Charles confirmed yesterday he was to seek a licence to hold the concert on August 29th.

He told reporters that in light of inconvenience caused by having 80,000 concert-goers arriving in the town, the start time was being delayed by two hours until 2 pm to allow people to attend mass.

The last Sunday concert was Bob Dylan in 1984. There was serious public disorder following that concert and concerts at the Castle were not held for a number of years afterwards. The concert is being promoted by MCD, whish has yet to apply for a licence for the event.
