A pitchfork, slash hook and iron bar were used in a dispute in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, that left at least one person with puncture wounds, Judge Michael Reilly was told at Nenagh District Court yesterday.
Windows in two houses were smashed and vehicles were damaged in what appears to have been a feud, Insp John Lynagh of Nenagh Garda station told the court.
The incident took place at Cormack Drive, a local authority housing estate in the town, on December 7th last.
One person suffered puncture wounds when stabbed with a pitchfork.
Other individuals suffered serious cuts and bruising. Several gardaí were involved in trying to restore order.
Judge Reilly said the case was too serious to be dealt with at District Court level. He refused jurisdiction and adjourned the case to July 16th to allow time for service of the Book of Evidence.
Four men have been charged in relation to the incident. Mr James Toohey, Cormack Drive, Nenagh, is charged with assaulting Mrs Mary Mitchell and Mr Darren Mitchell, causing them harm.
He is also charged with assaulting Mr Arthur Mitchell, damaging a motorcycle owned by Ms Mary Mitchell and damaging a sitting room window at 42 Cormack Drive.
Mr Darren Mitchell, Woodview Close, Nenagh, was charged with assaulting Mr Jimmy Toohey, causing him harm, and damaging the sitting room window of a house owned by Mr Jimmy Toohey.
Mr Ronan Dunne, Sallygrove, Nenagh, is charged with an assault on Mr Jimmy Toohey, causing him harm. Mr Jimmy Toohey, Cormack Drive, Nenagh, is charged with assaulting Mr Darren Mitchell, causing him harm.
