The five-year-old boy shot in the head in the playground of a Northern Ireland school week ago has shown signs of improvement, it was revealed tonight.
Darragh Summers was awake for a time in the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children today and responded to his mother.
In an update on his condition the Police Service said that although he had shown slight improvement he remained "very ill".
Officers investigating his shooting said they wanted to wish him well.
Darragh was struck in the head by a .22 bullet last Friday in the playground of his primary school outside Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
His parents have maintained a vigil at his hospital bedside ever since.
Police believe he was hit by a stray bullet fired by someone out hunting vermin.
Detective Chief Inspector Nigel Kyle who is leading the investigation has made repeated appeals for anyone shooting in the area on Friday to contact him.
He has become increasingly frustrated at the lack of response and has appealed for the person who believes they are responsible to consider contacting police through a clergyman.
Detectives have seized nearly 50 legally held rifles as part of their investigation and are carrying out ballistics tests to see if any of them were responsible for the little boy's injury.
In a fresh appeal tonight police appealed to anyone who had not yet contacted them and who had information about the shooting to come forward.
