The trial of a young Sligo man facing a rape charge was unable to proceed yesterday because his parents were not available to attend court.

The Central Criminal Court was told on a previous occasion that the defendant's mother was ill and his father was abroad looking after another sick relative.

The defendant was anxious to have his parents with him and there was no one else available to support him during n trial.

Mrs Justice McGuinness adjourned the case to July 25th. However, she said she had received a letter stating delays in the case were causing distress to the alleged victim.
