Leeds striker Alan Smith, Arsenal defender Martin Keown and Aston Villa centre-back Gareth Southgate were today called up into the Englandsquad.

They were among the 24 players named by Sven-Goran Eriksson for next week's friendly against Mexico at Pride Park, as well as the World Cupqualifier in Greece on June 6th.

Smith replaces Manchester United striker Andy Cole, who is suspended for the Greece game, while Keown and Southgate are recalled in theabsence of Sol Campbell and Gary Neville through injury.

As well as Campbell and Neville, midfielder Frank Lampard and goalkeeper Richard Wright are injured from the last squad, while Darren Anderton andKieron Dyer are also still not available.

With Ray Parlour also being recalled, while Sunderland midfielder Gavin McCann misses out and Nick Barmby is excluded after injury, that meansKevin Phillips and Ugo Ehiogu are also still overlooked. PA
