After light snowfalls across the Alps over the last couple of days, conditions have become a lot cooler and more settled. Andorran resorts, such as Soldeu, Pas de la Casa and Arinsal, could still do with some more snow, as lower slopes are not in great condition, although most runs in these resorts are fully open.
Some 25 to 30 cm of new snow has fallen in French resorts and, with the cooler temperatures, this is helping to improve the snowbase, particularly on lower runs. The best skiing in French resorts is at mid to upper resort levels and links in the ski circuits, such as the Trois Vallees and Portes du Soleil, are fully open.
Italian resorts continue to have very good skiing conditions throughout, with between 20 to 50 cm of new snow falling in the past week. Best conditions in Italy are in the higher resorts of Cervinia, Livigno and Passo Tonale. In Austria conditions have improved greatly over the past couple of weeks, although lower runs in some of the lower resorts are still in need of new snow. The Ski Welt Circuit is fully open and is giving good conditions at altitude but resort runs to Soll, Ellmau and Brixen are patchy. Mayrhofen is fully open but resort level runs are being topped up with artificial snow.
St Anton also has improved but runs in the Arlberg area are now closed in preparation for next week's Alpine World Championships.
There are good conditions in Switzerland with clear skies and cool temperatures. Best conditions are to be found in Zermatt and St Moritz.
In North America, resorts in the Colorado Rockies continue to remain in good condition with regular new falls in recent days. Similar conditions prevail further east in Killington and Stowe. In Canada, Whistler is reporting superb conditions with heavy falls in recent days and in the Canadian Rockies resorts such as Sunshine and Lake Louise are also reporting good conditions, although with less snow cover than normal for this time of year.
The outlook for Europe is for the cold spell to continue over the next two to three days with bright, cool and clear weather across most Alpine resorts, and under these conditions there are not expected to be any further snowfalls.
In Andorra, there may be some light falls of up to 30 cm over the next couple of days.
