A male cyclist has died following a fatal road incident in Cork on Saturday afternoon.
The 71-year-old was was out cycling with a group of colleagues when he fell off his bike and struck the ground on the Castletownbere to Ardgroom road at about 4.40pm on Saturday. No one else was injured.
The man’s fellow cyclists administered CPR until a local doctor arrived at the scene.
The doctor pronounced the man dead a short time later and his body was taken to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem will be carried out.
The road was temporarily closed to facilitate a Garda forensic collision examination but has since been reopened.
