Digital Hub homeless hostel to remain open until May

A homeless hostel that was meant to close today will now remain open until the end of next month.

The 100 bed homeless hostel Bru Aimsir was scheduled to close today however

a plan has been put in place to keep the hostel open until the end of May.

Bru Aimsir opened in December at the Digital Hub in Dublin.

The board of the Digital Hub Development Agency was due to close the Bru Aimsir centre today.

The CEO of the Peter McVerry Trust Pat Doyle said a planned transition process is essential in order to manage the replacement of the 100 beds for the homeless sector.

Separately, the trust said it is confident of securing capacity to replace the St John’s Lane West Hostel in the city - which is scheduled to be turned into social housing units.

It has been working for a number of months on putting in place bed capacity to replace the St John’s Lane West Hostel which is owned by Focus Ireland, and which is currently operating with charity’s support.
