Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with a suspected gangland shooting in north Dublin which left the victim critically ill in hospital.

Gardai said the victim, a champion bodybuilder believed to be in his early 30s, suffered several gunshot wounds to the upper body during the attack outside a gym at Ballyboggan Industrial Estate, Cabra on Wednesday morning.

The gunman is believed to have fled the scene in a silver Mini which in the direction of Finglas, gardai said.

The victim survived a gun attack in January 2011 when he was shot several times as he sat in a car outside a house in Clonsilla, west Dublin. He was also reportedly living under a death threat.

A 46-year-old suspect was arrested today and is being detained at Finglas Garda station under the provisions of section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
