The train line between Maynooth and Connolly station will be closed temporarily this morning following an incident on the line in the Castleknock area last night.

A spokeswoman for Iarnród Éireann said the Maynooth line is expected to close at 10am to allow garda investigators to examine in more detail the scene of an incident that occurred near Coolmine shortly before midnight.

It is not clear how long the line will remain closed for.

Gardaí remained at the scene until 4am when the train line reopened to commuter trains.

The temporary closure will affect passengers travelling to Sligo and Longford.
