Travel software specialist Datalex has trimmed losses in the first quarter of the year to $3.9 million from $5.6 million in the previous quarter.
The company said the first-quarter figures had benefited from drastic cutbacks announced last year. The rationalisation programme led to a 30 per cent cut in operating losses that the company said was in line with its business plan.
The company reduced operating expenses to $5.2 million from $9.2 million in the first quarter of 2001 before charges over redundancy costs.
Datalex chief executive Mr Neil Beck said the remainder of the year will be "challenging" but the company is encouraged by the apparent recovery of the travel sector.
Revenues were $5.6 million, an increase of 3 per cent on the previous quarter of $5.5 million.
