The European Union's foreign and security policy chief, the former NATO secretary-general, Mr Javier Solana, has condemned the "horrifying" suicide bombing which killed four German soldiers in Afghanistan.
In a statement, Solana said he was "shocked by the horrifying terrorist attack" in Kabul which killed at least six people, including the four German members of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
"The attack was directed against the effort of the international community to bring peace and democracy to this country and its citizens which have suffered so much under decades of totalitarian regimes," Mr Solana added.
"The European Union and its member states are determined to remain engaged in the construction of a better future for this war-torn country and will not allow terrorists to bomb Afghanistan back into a horrible past."
International condemnation has poured in after yesterday's attack on a bus, the deadliest to date on the ISAF contingent which is trying to keep the peace in Kabul following the fall of Afghanistan's Taliban regime.
