A US soldier has been charged in connection with the death of a Clare traditional dancer in a car crash inthe US two weeks ago.

Mr Joseph Livoti (25), was charged with causing the death ofMs Margaret Brohan while he was driving under the influence of alcohol. He also faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

He was driving a pick-up truck that collided with a car in which Ms Brohan was a back-seat passenger in Robinson township, a suburb of Pittsburgh, on November 12th.

Ms Brohan (19), from Spancil Hill, Co Clarewas a talented sean-nós and traditional Irish dancer. She had been on a trip to the US with the Rhythm of the Dance Troupe, having recently completed a two-week tour of Scandinavia with the group.

The Rhythm of the Dance Troupe had given an impromptu performance at a pubin Pittsburgh only hours before the crash.

Three other people who were in the car with Ms Brohan and Mr Livoti were injured and brought tohospital.
