A British soldier (23) is to appear at Laganside Magistrates Court in Belfast today charged with criminal damage and arson with intent to endanger life.
The charges relate to a fire at the Travelodge in Brunswick Street, Belfast, yesterday.
A second soldier, arrested in connection with the same incident, has been released on bail pending further instructions.
It is understood the soldiers were staying in Belfast as part of the firefighting arrangements set up by the army during the Fire Brigade Union strike.
