A member of the Irish Defence Forces appeared in court in Derry yesterday charged with raping a woman in the city last year.
The soldier – who is from Derry – denies committing the offence on May 14th, 2010.
He also denies a further offence of sexually assaulting by penetration the complainant, who is aged in her 20s, on the same date.
Defence solicitor Paddy MacDermott accepted that based on the papers before the court, his client had a prima facie case to answer.

Bail was not opposed and District Judge Barney McElholm released the defendant on his own bail of £500 to appear before the crown court for arraignment on September 13th.
