A man has been accused of stealing more that €9,000 from a woman in Dublin almost five years ago. Liam Davis (57), a solicitor, of Avondale Lawn, Blackrock, Dublin, appeared in court yesterday on a charge under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act. He is accused of the theft of €9,259 belonging to Martina Mulligan on February 8th, 2007.

A bench warrant was issued on Wednesday when he failed to attend his case due that day.

Det Sgt Margaret Murrell of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation told Judge Denis McLoughlin that Mr Davis was arrested yesterday afternoon on foot of the bench warrant.

Judge McLoughlin was told by defence counsel that there had been a mix-up in dates and when Mr Davis turned up for his case on Wednesday, the court had risen. Judge McLoughlin remanded Mr Davis, who has not yet indicated how he intends to plead, on bail to appear again next Friday.
