A solicitor was unsuccessful in his attempt to serve a summons on the Taoiseach as Mr Ahern left Dromoland Castle Hotel in Co Clare today.

Gardaí acting as security for the Taoiseach prevented Limerick solicitor, Mr John Devane, from presenting the summons.

Mr Devane is representing two anti-war activists who are to appear at Shannon District Court next month. Ms Jennifer Hannon (20), from Dublin and Mr Martin McGowan (43) from Sligo, are charged with causing criminal damage and trespass at Shannon Airport on April 18th. Both are members of the Catholic Worker Movement.

Mr Devane said he is issuing witness summonses to both Mr Ahern and the Minister for Defence, Mr Michael Smith, to appear in court.

He added he intended calling for a bench warrant for the arrest of both Mr Ahern and Mr Smith if they failed to come to the court on June 12th.
