London - British solicitor Sally Clark (35)lost her appeal yesterday against two life sentences for the murder of her baby sons, the Court of Appeal said. Clark, a corporate lawyer, had always denied killing 11-week-old Christopher and eight-week-old Harry at the home in Wilmslow, Cheshire she shared with her husband, Stephen.
She claimed that Christopher, who died in December 1996, and Harry, who died in January 1998, were both victims of cot death. But a panel of three judges sitting at the appeal court said the case against Clark was "overwhelming", rejecting her argument that the findings of the pathologist who conducted the post-mortems on the boys conflicted with other experts' views.
Lord Justice Henry told the court that similarities between the two deaths could not be ignored. Clark was sentenced for the two murders at Chester Crown Court in November 1999.
