Ulster coach Alan Solomons is being lined up to replace Ian McGeechan as the next coach of Scotland, it emerged this afternoon.
The South African held talks with the Scottish Rugby Union (SRU) last week and the while no contract has been offered, it is believed Solomons features prominently on a shortlist of candidates to take up the reins when McGeechan leaves after the World Cup in October.
The Scot wraps up his coaching duties after the tournament and will replace Jim Telfer as director of rugby.
Ulster officials have released a statement confirming that Solomons has been interviewed.
"Alan Solomons is known to be keen to complete his contract with Ulster, however, when a coaching role for one of the international rugby union sides comes up, it is only natural that a highly respected international coach such as Alan Solomons would come into consideration, " it said.
"No contract has been offered and no commitment given"
