The sons of two feuding Connemara families have been sent for mediation talks by a Circuit Court judge who blamed their parents for allowing a grievance, which began in the 1980s, to continue into the next generation.

Judge Raymond Groarke said at Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday he would put a stop to the row before it spread to the third generation of the Keane and Joyce families who live in Leitir Mór. The feud came to a head on St Stephen’s Day 2008 when Coilin Keane(32) assaulted Martin Joyce (43) and Patrick Joyce (40) outside their local pub.
