Tennis: Louk Sorensen joined Conor Niland in the final round of qualifying for the US Open this afternoon after a win over Gastao Elias from Argentina in his postponed second round match.
The 6-4 6-1 win means Sorensen will now face Austria’s Martin Fischer, ranked 258th in the world, at around 11pm this evening for a place in the US Open.
By that time he might not be the only Irishman in the competition.
Niland last night beat Taipei’s Tsung-Hua Yang in straight sets and this afternoon faces Matwe Middelkoop of the Netherlands in the final round.
