Spain 2 Ireland 1
Ireland have still to register a point at the women's World Cup in Australia after slumping to their fifth successive defeat against Spain.
As in many of their matches, the Irish put in a valiant performance and were denied a deserved point by a winner from Spain's Silvia Munoz nine minutes from the end.
Luci Lopez put the Spanish ahead from a 14th-minute penalty corner but seconds into the second half Arlene Boyes also scored a set-piece - her third goal of the tournament - to draw the Irish level.
Ireland, for whom captain Rachel Kohler was making her 150th appearance, lost Jenny Burke and Eimear Cregan to the sin-bin but this was balanced out by temporary suspensions for Raquel Huertas and Mar Feito.
The Irish remain bottom of Pool B and have just two matches in their group games, the first against Japan on Monday.
