A Spanish judge was shot dead in a suburb of the Basque city of Bilbao early today, regional police said.
The victim, Mr Jose Maria Guiron, was shot several times by an unidentified assailant in the Algorta quarter of the suburb of Getxo at 7.30 a.m. (local time) as he was preparing to get into his car, the police said.
There were no reports of any claims for the attack, which came one day after a powerful a car bomb police blamed on the Basque separatist organisation ETA rocked the Madrid neighbourhood of Prosperidad and injured 95 people, two of them seriously.
